EMU Library - Keeping You Up-to-Date

Open Access and the Digital Commons@EMU

Open Access publishing makes royalty-free literature available online at no cost to the reader.  For scholars, it is a publishing model that can make their research available to a diverse, global audience and increase its impact.

EMU faculty interested in making their journal articles, conference presentations, and other scholarship or creative works more widely available, are encouraged to deposit materials in Digital Commons@EMU.

EMU/UM Student & Staff Library Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement

In the summer of 2012, EMU's University Library worked with the University of Michigan's library administration to coordinate a reciprocal borrowing plan for students and staff.  Eastern's faculty have always had borrowing privileges at UM libraries, but this new agreement has added media borrowing for our faculty.  This agreement does not extend to off-campus access of the UM electronic databases.

Should you have any issues at either institution regarding procedure, or questions about the program, please ask for a circulation supervisor.

Library Collection Development Update

For the fiscal year 2012-13, the Library Materials Budget remained essentially the same as last year, i.e., $2.6 million.  As a result, we moved forward with the $122,000 in cancellations necessary to offset the annual inflation of the remaining materials.

Mold Remediation in the Library's Automated Retrieval Collection (ARC)

This fall, a number of people have asked: "So, is the ARC all fixed now?"  The short answer to that question is: "No, but we have no additional mold growth."

If you have items you know you will need for the Winter semester, please let us know now.

At this point, the best case scenario is to have the ARC fully restored by Fall 2013.
