Search for Chemical Identifier

Chemical identifiers are sequences of letters or numbers that are unique to specific compounds. The following are common chemical identifiers: 

  • CAS RN* (Chemical Abstract Service Registry Number -- Also known as CAS-RN, or Registry Number)  
    *Most common
  • International Chemical Identifier (InChID) - Pronounced "en-chee." More information about it here
  • Unique Ingredient Identifier (UNII)

To locate an identifier:  

  1. Conduct a search for the compound in the ChemIDplus Database
  2. Record the identifier number
  3. Use the identifier in other databases to help narrow your search
