Introduction

CINAHL and PubMed are two of the most widely used databases in the Health Sciences.

CINAHL is a database that indexes journals, books, audiovisuals, pamphlets, software, dissertations, and research instruments in all of the allied health professions. Results can be limited by different criteria, such as age groups, publication type, and sex. Because it is a paid subscription database, off-campus access is limited to students of Eastern Michigan University and you will have to log in using your NetID.

PubMed is a database that indexes journal articles in the life sciences, concentrating on biomedical information. PubMed is created and is maintained by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health, and contains all of the citations in Medline, plus additional citations and services. For additional information on this resource, see the PubMed Quick Tours (New PubMed) page.

CINAHL and PubMed are often searched for similar material, so this guide presents concepts essential to both. The content is broken down into small chunks, designed to accommodate the busiest schedules as well as provide easy reference.
