Students are expected to follow copyright laws and guidelines. The Eastern Michigan University Copyright Policy states “Faculty, administrators, staff, students and others engaged in University related activities, who violate the University’s copyright policy and/or the law, do so at their own risk, assume all liability for such violations and may be subject to disciplinary action.”
Classroom work, thesis, and dissertations are also protected by these same laws.
If you have questions or concerns about your course papers or project, review the Basic Copyright Principles and Fair Use sections as well as the other listed topics.
The best information on copyright and preparing your dissertation and thesis is Copyright and Your Dissertation or Thesis: Ownership, Fair Use, and Your Rights and Responsibilities by Kenneth Crews.
