EMU Faculty Open Access Publishing Fund

Eligibility

• Tenured and tenure-track faculty may apply.
• For co-authored works, the EMU applicant must be the first author or corresponding author.
• Applicants may receive funding once per fiscal year, regardless of the amount awarded.

Funding

• Funding is capped at $3,000 per article, book, or book chapter for the 2024–2025 academic year.
• Awards may only be used to pay open access fees. Costs for reprints, color illustrations, non-open access page charges, administrative charges, or other fees are not covered.

Publication Requirements

• Journals must be listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
• Books/chapters must be published by presses listed in the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB).
• Publishers must be members of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA) or follow the OASPA Code of Conduct.
• The APC schedule must be publicly available.
• Hybrid journals (subscription journals offering optional OA for individual articles) are not eligible.

Application Process

• Faculty should apply after their article, chapter, or book has been accepted for publication.
• Applications are submitted through InfoReady
• Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis until all funds are expended. Please allow up to two weeks for a decision.

Payment Process

• Once approved, the awardee’s department or school uses its procurement card to pay APC fees.
• Charges must be allocated to the fund number provided by the Office of the Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research.

Acknowledgment & Deposit

• Award recipients must include the following statement of support in the funded publication:
  "Publication made possible in part by support from Eastern Michigan University's Faculty Open Access Publishing Fund, administered by the Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, with assistance from the EMU Library."
• A final, published version of the funded work must be deposited in DigitalCommons@EMU.
