Faculty Open Access Publishing Fund

• Tenured and tenure-track faculty are invited to apply. In instances of co-authored works, EMU applicants must be the first author or corresponding author.
   
• Funding is capped at $3,000 per article/book/book chapter for the 2023-2024 academic year.
   
• Applicants may receive funding once per fiscal year, regardless of the amount provided.
   
• Publication eligibility:
  • Journals are listed in the DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals); in the case of books or book chapters, the publisher is listed in the DOAB (Directory of Open Access Books).
  • Journal or book publishers are members of the OASPA (Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association) or adhere to the OASPA Code of Conduct.
  • The publication's Article Processing Charge (APC) schedule is publicly available.
  • Hybrid journals (subscription journals with optional open access at the article level) are not eligible.
     
• The award may be used to pay open access fees only.  Cost for reprints, color illustration fees, non-open access page charges, administrative charges, and other fees are not covered.
   
• Faculty should apply to the Faculty Open Access Publishing Fund after their article/chapter/book has been accepted for publication. The application is available through InfoReady.
   
• Once approved, award recipients' departments or schools use their procurement card to pay the APC fees and allocate the charges to the fund number provided by the Office of the Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research.
   
• Award recipients are asked to include the following statement of support, "Publication made possible in part by support from Eastern Michigan University's Faculty Open Access Publishing Fund, administered by the Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, with assistance from the EMU Library."
   
• Award recipients agree that a final, published version of the funded article, book, or book chapter will be deposited into EMU's institutional repository, DigitalCommons@EMU.

Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis until all funds are expended. Please allow two weeks for a decision.
