Librarians have designed searches that combine official subject words for the variables with official subject words for academic achievement or the classroom environment. The searches also use special techniques to try to limit results to research articles and articles about U.S. students. The ERIC searches use special limiters for grade levels and the PsycINFO searches use limiters for age ranges.

ERIC is the major index for finding articles about education topics. It covers education from birth through college and includes articles from scholarly journals and professional periodicals. You might also find reports, dissertations, lesson plans, and other types of materials in ERIC.

PsycINFO is from the American Psychological Assn. It isn't just for psychology--it's very useful for education and other social science topics. You might also find reports and dissertations in PsycINFO.
