Use this guide to find, read, and share theses and dissertations written by Eastern Michigan University students. It highlights where EMU graduate work is hosted online, how to locate older print copies, and what to do if the full text is not available.
If you are preparing to submit your own thesis or dissertation, be sure to visit the Steps to Submitting Your Work page in this guide for step-by-step details.
Most recent EMU theses and dissertations are available online through DigitalCommons@EMU and ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global. Use both tools to get the broadest coverage.
If you cannot find an EMU thesis or dissertation you expect to exist, contact the Library Research Center. EMU librarians can help you check DigitalCommons@EMU, the catalog, and ProQuest, and suggest next steps.
Not all theses and dissertations by EMU students are immediately available in full text online. There are several common reasons:
Embargoes – Authors may request a temporary delay on public access while they prepare articles or books, complete a patent application, or meet publisher requirements.
Copyright or permissions issues – Some projects include images, data, or other content that requires additional permissions before the full text can be shared.
Older works not yet digitized – Some earlier theses and dissertations exist only in print and may not yet have a digital version in DigitalCommons@EMU or ProQuest.
For more detail about embargo options, copyright, and how access decisions are made, see the Embargoes & Copyright page in this guide.
