Project Description

Compared to the general population, wildland firefighters are at an increased risk of suicide. While the issue has garnered national attention in recent years, the accessibility and real-world applicability of mental health and wellness resources and media available to the firefighters remains unclear and understudied. Through this project, we are assessing the availability and quality of mental health and wellness resources offered through fire district offices, community support programs, and public libraries. We are looking to determine the wants and needs of the firefighters themselves regarding the format, type, and platform of resources. This information will be used to develop a list of recommended materials and to seek funding and other potential partnerships to make those resources available.
