ILLIAD InterLibrary Loan for articles

MeLCat Interlibrary Loan for books

MeLCat is not available while libraries are closed due to the Covd-19 shutdown.

MeLCat, or the Michigan eLibrary Catalog, is a project funded by the State of Michigan that links various participating libraries across the state. As a participating institution, EMU users benefit from a number of its features, including:

  • MeLCat Library Delivery: Allows you to request books, videos, and CDs from participating libraries across the state and have them shipped to your home library (See http://elibrary.mel.org/screens/participating.html for a list of participating libraries). Using this service, you may request that EMU materials be shipped to your local public library (this is the preferred method for off-campus students who are Michigan residents).
  • MeLCat Visiting Patron: If a library participates in the Visiting Patron Service (see http://elibrary.mel.org/screens/participating.html for a list of participating libraries), you may check out materials in person by using your EagleCard or library card from another participating institution and photo ID. You may return the materials to either your home library or the library from which you've checked them out.

For more information on using MeLCat, see http://mel.org/Help, or the instructional video at http://youtu.be/nZsUH79taQ8.

UM Libraries for EMU Students

Due to the pandemic, UM Libraries are currently closed to non-UM visitors.  In the meantime, use MeLCat to request books not in EMU's collection.

EMU Students may borrow books and other circulating materials in the University of Michigan Library collections by obtaining a guest borrowers card. This is not an interlibrary loan service, and this guest borrower's card does not give you online access to UM's electronic resources.

First, EMU students must register at the EMU Library Circulation Desk with a current EMU ID card and a U-M Library Card Request Form (see below for the form).

Next, you will be notified by email when your guest borrower's card can be picked up at the Hatcher Graduate Library North Circulation Desk at University of Michigan. Bring a picture ID with you to pick up your card.  Borrowing Privileges and library cards for EMU students and staff are valid for the current term only, and can be renewed by visiting the EMU Library Circulation Desk.

Note that this guest borrower's card does not give you online access to UM's electronic resources, but some of those resources may be available at designated guest computers in the UM Libraries buildings.

UM Libraries are multiple and complex. EMU students should take time to get to know the website and plan a visit.
