Print materials
The ERC is a collection of PK-12 textbooks and other curricular materials provided to support EMU students in curriculum and teaching methods courses. There is a print collection on the 2nd floor of the EMU Library (north side), near EMU's extensive collection of children's literature. The print ERC materials are for in-library use. Books from the Children's Literature collection can be checked out. The guides linked below may help in using the Children's collection. There may be additional lesson planning materials in the library's general collection that can be found using Esearch.
Electronic materials
In addition, this guide provides links to PK-12 open education resources (OER) and other free curricular materials on the web, as well as ebooks and relevant databases that can be accessed with an EMU NetID. The databases and ebooks from the Michigan Electronic Library, can also be accessed by Michigan residents at mel.org
The ERC collection on the 2nd floor of the library is currently open for in person use.
If you are in an online class and unable to come to campus, the Open Educational Materials and ebooks linked from this site may be helpful. If you identify a section of a print book in the ERC that you would like a copy of, you can request that it be digitized. In accordance with fair use principles the amount of digitization allowed is limited, generally to the equivalent of one book chapter. The following link provides instructions for requesting a digitized copy.
If the record for an ERC book you are interested in doesn't include table of contents info, you can try looking for that on Amazon, Google Books, or the publisher web site. There is also a small chance that you will find a digitized version of the ERC book in the Internet Archive's Open Library.
