Is it a legitimate journal or conference?

An Archive of Beall's List
A librarian used to keep a "List of Predatory Publishers" to help scholars avoid scammers posing as open access journals. That site was taken down, but this page provides a copy of the list before it was taken down.
Think Check Submit
This site provides some tips for how to evaluate the legitimacy and appropriateness of a journal before submitting your manuscript.
Think. Check. Attend.
To avoid presenting at a predatory conference use this checklist to evaluate conferences. A predatory conference might charge a high registration fee, but not actually perform peer review and may not reliably publish abstracts and papers. *A red flag not mentioned on this site are conferences with very very broad themes, such as science and social science.
