Religion at Eastern Michigan University

A guide to religious activity on Eastern Michigan University's campus.

The Student Christian Association (SCA) was the first religious organization on campus. Originally starting as a prayer meeting group in 1853. The Student Christian Association was the original group who were supposed to keep Starkweather indefinitely. During the start of the SCA, there were faculty sponsored religious endeavors such as a daily choir devotional.

The SCA’s constitution states that the organization wanted to promote the growth and grace of Christian fellowship among its members and focus to instigate “aggressive Christian work”. Prayer and conference meetings took place on Wednesday’s of each week. They had an open invitation to the student body to come to their events, “Come with us and we will do thee good.”.
